CTG held a meeting to attract local actors of the cultural community on thefuture launch of calls of cluster 2.
This meeting took place in the framework ofthe upcoming online training on December 7 th , 2021.
This was a successful exchange as all the actors discussed the perspectives of potential collaborations to respond to these type of calls. It was also the occasion to present FORWARD.

We are glad to announce that our partner Conseil Départemental de Mayotte (CDM) has organised and implemented the first short mobility of the FORWARD project. The mobility forms part of the WP5 networking activities.
CDM has managed to send one of their regional researchers to visit the Institute of Parasitology and Tropical Veterinary Medicine of the Free University of Berlin, Germany.
Dr. Mohamed Dakid ISSOUF from Mayotte spent a week with Dr. Georg SAMSON-HIMMELRSTJERNA collaborating in plants’ medicine research.
In the framework of this Science Policy initiative. the EC has been running a series of workshops in several EU member states, taking place between 2020 – 2022. In particular, this 16th November 2021, there was held the Portugal workshop, attended by our Madeira partners ARDITI and UMa. In this workshop, the EC also presented the EU Academy tool (https://academy.europa.eu/), where you can find a first series of interesting open-access training courses, including:
Do you know Martinique’s PARM – Agro resources and research centre? PARM is an innovation hub serving the competitiveness of tropical productions, which supports the development of Martinique’s agro-resources and the agro-food sector.

In the framework of the Work Package 2 ‘Diagnostics of ORs’ R&I systems‘, the WP leader NEXA supported by the FORWARD consortium released two interactive and user-friendly dashboards with interesting R&I data from the 9 ORs:
These dashboards are available open-access on NEXA’s public research portal and now also on our project website (section: Resources).
In the context of our WP4 capacity building, on 26 and 27 October 2021, partners from Madeira (ARDITI and UMa) organised a 2-day seminar on Scientific Excellence in Research & Innovation on rethinking the current view of ‘ smart ’ islands. Key speaker of the sessions was FORWARD Advisory Board member Dr. Norbert Streitz, Scientific Director of Smart Future Initiative.
On the first day, there were presentations of ARDITI by Dr. Rui Caldeira and Lucio Quintal on the FORWARD project and Paulo Abreu on the planned Digital Innovation Hub (DIH). With his keynote “Rethinking ‘Smart’ Islands Towards Self – Aware and Cooperative Hybrid Islands”, Dr. Norbert Streitz then introduced the overall framework and identified the key parameters for Self-Aware, Cooperative, Hybrid Island.
For the second day of the seminar, Christine Riedmann, Managing Director of Marken Factory, developed a concept for the Madeira Island Design Café facilitating the transformation of Madeira into a Self-aware, Cooperative, Hybrid Island. She moderated the seminar with researchers and local stakeholders from Madeira. The objective was to start the transformation, identify specific issues and strategies for Madeira and develop the Madeira Roadmap for Transformation and Implementation.
