The “Smart Fossil Free Island” is based on two pillars – sustainable energy and sustainable mobility – and aims to create an “intelligent electric ecosystem” on the island of Porto Santo, benefiting from its small size (42.48 square kilometers) and only 5,483 inhabitants (Census 2011).
