French food, environmental and occupational health & safety agency

ANSES’ mission comply with the following decree no. 2010-18 of 7 January
2010, with regards to food, environmental and occupational risk assessments,
providing information to the public authorities for health policies. ANSES is a
public, administrative body that reports to the Ministers of Health, Agriculture,
the Environment, Employment and Consumption.

In Reunion, the French food, environmental and occupational health & safety
agency is represented by the Plant Health Laboratory : tropical pests and
pathogens unit

  • Research domains

    The research activities include :

    • research applied to developing analytical methods to detect harmful quarantine organisms
    • undertaking confirmatory analyses
    • facilitation of the network of certified laboratories through the Inter laboratory
      proficiency test (EILA) and training and specialist analysis conducted by ANSES.
  • Facilities

    Specialist COFRAC-certified laboratory complying with standard 17025, part
    of the 3P Plant Protection Platform and with access to all 3P facilities and
    services, including an NS3 level quarantine greenhouse.

  • Main research projects

    Developing detection methods :

    • Serology used to analyse the banana tree virus (ELISA), molecular biology techniques (PCR, qPCR) : banana bunchy top virus, banana streak virus
    • Banana tree bacteria : Ralstonia solanacearum (Moko strains)
    • Anthurium bacteria : Xanthomonas axonopodis pv dieffenbachiae
    • Bacteria causing citrus greening disease (Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus)
