CIBIO- Açores is a research and development autonomous nucleus of the Research Network on Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology, InBIO, Associated Laboratory.

The mission of CIBIO-Azores is to understand the evolutionary and ecological processes that determine the biodiversity patterns in island ecosystems, and to develop management and conservation strategies for the island biodiversity.

The centre is also dedicated to scientific dissemination, in collaboration with the centers for science and technology dissemination and to promoting knowledge about endemic, native and introduced biodiversity, both at the level of natural ecosystems and at the level of agricultural and forestry ecosystems.

It has an extensive experience in providing services to regional public authorities, especially in the areas of land management,

natural, agricultural and forestry resources assessment, ecosystem services recovery, carbon accumulation and climate change, and the study of social phenomena that impact on biodiversity, such as tourism.
