The French Research Institute for the Use of Marine Resources is present in French Guiana since 1971. The activity of the local team is mainly focused on the study of fishery resources. The team is interested in understanding the dynamics of fished populations and fisheries, the biological state of marine ecosystems under pressure from fishing and global change.
The Halieutic Biodiversity Unit (BIODIVHAL) of French Guiana, the only unit, is attached to the Biological Resources and Environment Department located in the City of Cayenne.
