Fostering research excellence
in EU Outermost Regions
The development of digital economy represent a potential specific development for the future of Mayotte. It is deeply within the regional innovation strategy and intelligent specialization (SRI-SI) of the local territory.
Since 2016
The development context of this sector has evolved very favorably since April 2012 with the arrival of the broadband connection (ADSL) on the territory and the connection to the Lion 2 submarine cable. Since the end of 2016, the connection to a second submarine cable, Avassa, gives access to very high speed (THD), to fiber optic connection and to 4G. With this dual connection and securing its connection to the network, the island is experiencing a real digital revolution: 99% of the territory now enjoys mobile coverage and 3G and the telecommunications market is booming. This dynamic is generating new uses and opening up opportunities in terms of services and products, particularly in hosting and securing systems and digital data within the region.
Mayotte’s first Datacenter, ITH Center will offer a high level of security, “Tier III”, which means that maintenance operations can be managed without impacting the continuity of service of the servers present. Its neutrality and high level of resilience will enable all private, public and operators and digital service providers (ESN) in Mayotte and the sub-region to benefit from a unique level of local IT services, quality and affordable.
Located in Mamoudzou, in the industrial area of Kawéni, on a plot of 1100 m², the project enjoys an ideal and strategic location, in the middle of the main administrative and health centers and a large part of the economic actors of the Isle. In terms of connectivity, this location, less than 800 meters from the point of collection of the Internet network by the three telecommunication operators, will allow an easy and reliable connection. It is also located in the priority area of development of the optical fiber. This implementation allows to reach high levels of connectivity, energy performance and availability, despite a difficult tropical climate and access to energy that is not always guaranteed.
On a floor area of almost 350m2, the complex will consist of a four-storey office building and a three-story “Datacenter” building. The Tier III Datacenter will have an in-depth capacity of 80 bays, offering collocation services and private suites for private, public and open to all operators and ESN of the island and region.
In addition, the Datacenter will present a high level of environmental performance thanks to the energy supply system that will meet the requirements of energy expenditure control. The project includes an innovative solar air conditioning solution (solar thermal collectors) whose purpose is to limit the energy consumption of the Datacenter.
ITH Center is scheduled for commissioning in the second half of 2018. Construction is scheduled to start in January 2018.
The creation of a Datacenter in Mayotte provides an ambitious response to these new demands.
By proposing a new and innovative service offering, up to the challenges of the territory, current and future.
By offering a centralized, fast reliable and secure hosting solution, able to support all uses locally, the project contributes to the growth of the digital economy sector of Mayotte which will be able to rely on the infrastructure needed to his development. Mayotte will benefit from an unprecedented level of infrastructure in the region, which will contribute to its attractiveness. In addition, the offer of server hosting services in a private suite or roommate will be complemented by an offer of commercial offices.
