La Reunion
Research centers or research group
The Laboratory of Earth Sciences at the University of Reunion Island was
set up in 1984, since the foundation of the University. Its work areas
were initially restricted to sedimentology in coastal areas (origins,
evolution, dynamics, protection of coral reefs and associated sediments).
The laboratory extended its activities to two new research areas, which
are now predominant : volcanology (structure, history, processes, risks
and dismantlement of shield volcanoes), imaging and the deep dynamics
of the Earth and the Reunion hot spot (seismology) and hydrogeology
(water cycle in the volcanic, island, tropical environment, instrumentation
of watershed in a tropical climate).
In July 2005, the research unit was renamed the Reunion GeoSciences
Laboratory and its members joined the «Volcanic Systems» team in the
joint research unit 7154 IPGP | Paris Diderot | University of Reunion Island.
