  • research domains

It studies the marine biodiversity in lagoon, coastal and deep-sea
ecosystems, mainly in Mediterranean and tropical areas. Research focuses
on different levels of integration : molecular, individual, population and
community dimensions, and human uses of marine biodiversity.

The three main goals are :

    • to describe marine biodiversity, understand its processes and how marine ecosystems work
    • to analyse the impact of human-induced pressures on these ecosystems and to develop scenarios to respond to global changes
    • to reconcile activities mainly fishing and fish farming with conservation and to meet social needs (guidance, innovation, remedial work)

Research activities are based on 8 scientific topics :

    • Evolutionary ecology and adaptation
    • Individuals, populations and habitats
    • The dynamics and functions of communities
    • Micro-organisms and interactions with macro-organisms
    • Contaminants : future changes and responses
    • Sustainable acquaculture
    • Coastal systems with multiple uses
    • Eco-systemic approaches to fishing
