The Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Forestry is in charge of policies related to agriculture and livestock, rural development, agrarian training and rural extension, management and enhancement of forest and hunting resources, diversification and enhancement of regional products. We work daily to implement the best public policies in these areas. Agriculture has always been a fundamental pillar of the Azorean economy, as a sector that generates food, wealth and employment on all islands. The potential of traditional productive activities, such as milk and meat production, is increasingly associated with the increase in agricultural diversification and organic farming, without forgetting the development of the wine sector. All of this has contributed to a more vigorous, modern and proactive sector, Public policies in this area are geared towards promoting rejuvenation, modernization of farms and agricultural infrastructure, in terms of paths, electricity and water supply. It is also intended to increase the levels of qualification of its agents, in order to increase the respective income and the sustainability of the sector. The Azores are nature, they are the green of pastures and forests. With more than 72 thousand hectares, the regional forest has enormous export potential. It is up to this Regional Secretariat to define policies that protect our forest and at the same time make it even more attractive from an economic point of view, generating more business and more jobs.
