Synergîle, Guadeloupe’s innovation hub, organises a webinar on the future of Research and Innovation entitled “Research and Innovation in the ORs: international collaborations and FORWARD solutions” (La Recherche et l’Innovation dans les RUP: collaborations internationales et solutions FORWARD).

The webinar is scheduled for Tuesday, November 30th, 2021 between 15h00 and 17h30 Brussels time on Zoom and Facebook live.

 The objective is to present the tools being developed and tested in the FORWARD and to initiate a long-term reflection on the future of Research and Innovation and the need for strong collaborations in insular areas such as the European Outermost Regions.

 The webinar will be closed by a round table with experts, actors, institutes in charge of Research and Innovation of Guadeloupe, i.e., Region Guadeloupe (FORWARD partner), SARA, University of the Antilles (FORWARD partner), and representatives from SMEs.

In the framework of WP6, on 23 November 2021, the FORWARD project was presented to over 50 actors of the regional representatives of French Guiana.

The president of La Collectivité Territoriale de Guyane congratulated on the work done under the project and also the contribution of the FORWARD local team to increase the visibility/excellence of French Guiana’s R&I ecosystem.

The aim was also to create awareness on OR’s participation in European Framework programmes. Moreover, the promotional videos of FORWARD were broadcast.

 

We are glad to announce that our partner Conseil Départemental de Mayotte (CDM) has organised and implemented the first short mobility of the FORWARD project. The mobility forms part of the WP5 networking activities.

CDM has managed to send one of their regional researchers to visit the Institute of Parasitology and Tropical Veterinary Medicine of the Free University of Berlin, Germany.

Dr. Mohamed Dakid ISSOUF from Mayotte spent a week with Dr. Georg SAMSON-HIMMELRSTJERNA collaborating in plants’ medicine research.

Martinique’s WP4 training sessions will begin on 26th November 2021.

The training programme is based on 3 key themes:

  • Presentation of the Horizon Europe and its calls;
  • Applying and monitoring calls for projects;
  • Setting up project networks and consortia.

Our partner University of Azores (UAc) is organising a WP4 capacity building event for their project managers, with the end goal to further support the university’s researchers.

The training will focus on effective writing for winning EU project proposals and will be given by expert consultants at LGI.

The event will take place on 23rd November 2021.

Between 8th, 9th, and 10th November 2021, FORWARD partner ULPGC is holding a WP5 scientific webinar on blue innovations in the ORs. The event is promoted by the University Institute ECOAQUA and the Spanish Bank of Algae.

The conference is being held physically at the Marine Scientific Park of ULPGC (Gran Canaria) and accessible open-access via the university YouTube channel here.

Our project coordinator Dr. Javier Roo, ACIISI is also present as one of the invited speakers. He will make a presentation on aquaculture, titled ‘Diversification of aquaculture species in Outermost Regions: Case study of Amberjacks’.

Previous interesting presentations have been for instance:

  • ‘Aquaponics and Circular Economy’ by the representative of the Interreg MAC project ISLANDAP Lidia Robaina; and
  • ‘New Trends in Microalgae Production: From the Lab to the Industry’ by Dr. Juan Luis Gómez Pinchetti.

AFRICAGUA is the 7th international forum on water, renewable energies and sustainability to be held on 30th November and 1st December 2021, in hybrid format, from Fuerteventura (Canary Islands – Spain). The programme is available at Programme – Africagua Canarias 2021.

In the framework of the FORWARD project, our partners from Madeira – ARDITI and UMA – are organising an event to promote dialogue on smart islands and transition to self-aware and cooperative hybrid islands.

The event will be be held on 26th October 2021, at the premises of the Madeira University (UMA).
The key speaker involved is one of the FORWARD Advisory Board members, Prof. Norbert Streitz.

The first meeting between our Advisory Board members and sub-coordinators of our Thematic Working Groups (TWGs) was organised on 14th October 2021.

The event was held online, and it was a fruitful occasion to make the point on the status of the TWGs’ action plans, its main challenges and opportunities, and the plan for their sustainability.
