The French Agricultural Research Center for International development and our Forward partners Guyane Développement Innovation and Collectivité Territorial de Guyane are organizing a congress entitled :

“Trees and other plants of the Cosmetopeia: perspectives of innovation and valorization of the sectors in Overseas France” which will take place in French Guiana from March 28th to 30th, 2022, it will be a hybrid event (physically and online).

This scientific and cultural event, on healing and perfuming trees, should bring together about a hundred participants, including researchers, producers, socio-economic and political actors, from overseas territories and departments (Reunion Island, Polynesia, New Caledonia, Martinique, Guadeloupe …), from metropolitan France but also from other geographical areas.

This symposium will allow to promote initiatives at the regional level, to encourage the transfer and innovation by creating bridges and sharing successful models, to create added value in the overseas regions and to participate in the economic recovery and employment on a sector full of future. This meeting is in line with the Forward project aiming to strengthen the research and innovation assets of the outermost regions (OR).

The FORWARD session is scheduled for 29 March – 11am-12pm (local time) 3pm-4pm (Brussels time).

The objectives, progress, preliminary results of the OR thematic working groups and the perspectives of Forward will be presented.

On November 30th, Synergîle held a webinar entitled “Research and Innovation in the ORs: international collaborations and FORWARD solutions”, in French.

This dissemination event aimed :

  • To present the local R&I ecosystem;
  • To present FORWARD : a toolbox to face the challenges of R&I in the Outermost Regions ;

To gather local stakeholders for a round table to discuss the long term perspectives of R&I and the need for strong collaborations

From 27 January to 17 February 2022, the Instituto Tecnológico de Canarias (ITC) organized a new edition of this virtual training in ‘Open Calls‘. This action is part of the FORWARD project (WP4 activities) and has the support of the Enterprise Europe Network of Canary Islands.

The itinerary of the course started with an open informative session on Thursday, January 27th. The following sessions had limited capacity and were linked to a project idea to present to an ‘Open Call’ of interest to the company or organization.

The aim of the course was to raise awareness of this type of financing and to offer companies tools with which to participate in these procedures. Likewise, the contents of the training have been designed to adapt to the reality of Canary Island companies and organizations.

· Phases 2 and 3 Training and workshop. From 3rd to 17th February.

This is the 2nd edition of the training organized with FORWARD programme, the previous edition of the capacity building action took place in May/Jun 2021, with great and successful results:
– 20 R&D+I projects received Individual professional support to opt for Open Calls financing.
– 10 companies from the Canary Islands submitted 5 proposal to an Open Call.
– 6 companies, 4 proposals, have been granted for value of 370.000 €.

The rest of the companies have the knowledge to opt to Open Calls financing, and may submit their proposal in future calls.
The granted R&D+I projects are related to the following areas: tourism, waste management, business strategy, and intelligent ports.

Martinique started their WP4 training sessions in      November 2021, and they will end in February 2022.

The program has been presented as the following :

  • Presentation of the Horizon Europe and its calls;
  • Applying and monitoring calls for projects;
  • Setting up project networks and consortia.

 

In French Guiana, CTG organized Horizon Europe online trainings in the framework of the European project FORWARD aiming at increasing the participation of the outermost regions in the calls for proposals related to Research and Innovation.

Upcoming training on February 4th, 2022 – French Guiana

On February 4th, La Collectivité Territoriale de Guyane has implemented an online training in the scope of the WP4 capacity building actions, in French.

This training was hosted by the French National Contact Point of Cluster 4 Digital, Industry and Space, and will discuss the calls of interest under this cluster.

Upcoming training on February 4th, 2022 – French Guiana

CTG will also be organizing 8 free online training sessions from February 15th to March 23rd, 2022.

These trainings are intended to attract the local R&I community more into participating European R&I calls.

Guyane Développement Innovation held 2 trainings on Horizon Europe for SMEs in the month of February also.

These trainings aimed to create awareness among business owners/entrepreneurs on the opportunities in participating in Horizon Europe R&I calls. But also to give them tools and advices to engage in these calls.

CCIA capacity building action – January 21st   2022

Our partner CCIA (Chamber of Commerce from Azores) implemented its WP4 capacity building action. This online session was held in Portuguese.

The activity aimed at deepening and analysing the ability to innovate in companies through a strategic reinforcement and a closer connection with R&D centres of the local/regional ecosystem.

The main audience were companies and R&D representatives from Azores. The speaker of this action was Mr. Julio Fernandez-Gayoso Mediero.

CCIA capacity building action

A WP4 Seminar on Scientific Excellence in Research & Innovation in Funchal, was implemented on 26th & 27th October 2021. The key speaker was FORWARD’s Advisory Board member Dr. Norbert Streitz, Scientific Director of Smart Future Initiative.

The main focus points were  :

-The presentation of the FORWARD Project ;

-The presentation of the planned Digital Innovation Hub (DIH);

-Turning Madeira into a Self-aware, Cooperative, Hybrid Island.

Between November 8th and 10th, 2021, FORWARD’s partner ULPGC successfully organized a WP5 scientific webinar on blue innovations in the ORs. The event was promoted by the University Institute ECOAQUA and the Spanish Bank of Algae.

The conference was held physically at the Marine Scientific Park of ULPGC (Gran Canaria). Moreover, our project coordinator Dr. Javier Roo, ACIISI also made a presentation on aquaculture, titled ‘Diversification of aquaculture species in Outermost Regions: Case study of Amberjacks’.

In the framework of WP5 networking activities, the very first short-term mobility has been implemented by our partner CDM – MAYOTTE.

Indeed, a researcher was sent to the Institute of Parasitology and Tropical Veterinary Medicine of the Free University of Berlin, Germany, to visit and discuss potential collaboration.

The FORWARD project was presented to the elected representatives of the Plenary Assembly on November 23rd. This action aimed to raise awareness among elected officials on the challenges of research and innovation that will help French Guiana achieve excellence.

Indeed, in the Research and Innovation ecosystem, the elected representative is a key actor.

The local FORWARD team also seized the opportunity to broadcast the two FORWARD promotional videos. As a reminder :

The last joint meeting of the TWG’s sub-coordinators of the year 2021      took place on November 29th.

During this meeting, the discussion was mainly based on the upcoming WP4 training, which is currently under organization of Synergîle. The sub coordinators were asked to clearly express their needs as TWG leaders to manage their group/team.
