In the context of the FORWARD project, as part of WP4 capacity building actions, our partners ULL and ULPGC (Canary Islands) are organising a seminar on the TWINNING call, within the framework of Horizon Europe – WIDENING Programme.

These actions finance R&I support, with the main objective to improve access to excellence and reduce investment disparities between EU regions. The eligible entities are WIDENING countries and regions (considered with the lowest investment and performance in R&I), which include the Outermost Regions.

The seminar will be held online, on October 21, 2021, at 10 am (Canary Islands time), and it will last 2 hours.

In the frame of the FORWARD project, on the 26th of October, NEXA organises an online training session for researchers and innovators who know little about Horizon Europe.
The session starts at 9.00 am in La Reunion (7am CET) until 12.30.

With the support of FORWARD project, the Regional Government of the Azores, through the Regional Fund for Science and Technology, organized between September 20 and 24, the EMERGENCE@Azores, which took place at Arquipélago – Contemporary Arts Center in Ribeira Grande, São Miguel Island.

In this intensive 5 day-long event, more than 50 participants were able to immerse in a collaborative setting where they are assisted through the process of exploring various digital media technologies with a focus on creating stories for both linear and experiential formats and to equip the R&I community with enhanced digital capacities to perform research and innovation.

EMERGENCE@Azores brings together scientists, techies, artists, and science communicators, to collaboratively create digital media-based projects that communicate complex concepts in scientific research.

Our FORWARD partner – Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) – is organizing an informative session on open access and FAIR management procedures in Horizon Europe projects.

Online workshop on Macaronesian Algae Blue Bioeconomy – 17th June 2021

The workshop is promoted within the framework of the European Maritime Day in My Country 2021 (#EMDinMyCountry), by the partners of the REBECA and REBECA-CCT projects and backed by our FORWARD project as well.

The organisers are the Spanish Bank of Algas of the Canary Islands and the Society for the Economic Promotion of Gran Canaria, along with some FORWARD organisations, namely the Canarian Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society (ACIISI) and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC). Our partner NEXA from La Réunion will also participate as an invited speaker of the event.

The initiative is part of the Specific Objective 3 and communication activities of the REBECA and REBECA-CCT projects, which aim to create and consolidate a network of microalgae and cyanobacteria culture collections, as well as the promotion of biotechnology blue based on algae in Macaronesia.

In 2022, the European Commission plans to launch the “EU algae initiative“, whose main objective is to increase sustainable production, guarantee safe consumption and promote the innovative use of algae and algae-based products. In Spain, the new strategy for the sustainable development of aquaculture is being designed in line with Europe. The online workshop will be a further step to define the role of the blue bio-economy based on algae in outermost regions.

The event foresees a first block dedicated to the blue bio-economy in Macaronesia and its role in the initiative of the European Commission to achieve a consolidated and sustainable seaweed sector in the EU. Important speakers from the Commission and other key opinion leaders in the algae field will join the discussions.

Afterwards, participants will be able to learn more about the Blue Biotechnology Excellence Network – REBECA – and the experience of relevant actors from Azores, Madeira, the Canary Islands, Cape Verde, Mauritania and La Réunion, regions linked to the project.

You can register to the event through the form available at this link.

The draft programme can be consulted here.

The workshop will count on simultaneous translation from Spanish versus English, Portuguese, and French.
