University of French Guiana is a public establishment for Higher Education and Research. There are 2,034 students on two campuses: The French Guiana University Center (Troubiran campus) in Cayenne; The IUT (Bois-Chaudat campus) in Kourou. The higher teaching and education school as well as the common continuing education service are also located in Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni in different premises that are not grouped together on campus.

The Research is organized around four major research centers focused on Amazonian issues :

• Dynamics of biodiversity in the Amazon and developement of natural resources
• Health and ecology of health in a tropical environment
• Dynamics of Amazonian societies in their environments and sustainable management of Amazonian territories
• Innovative tehcnologies in the Amazonian environment (renewable energies and teleapplications)
