The EcoAqua project was developed in the framework of the EU ERA Chairs Program, more specifically under Activity: 4.1. Unlocking and developing the research potential in the EU’s convergence regions and outermost regions.
The main objectives of the 5 years project are:
1. To integrate an outstanding researcher and its team members to the existing local research network and consolidate the research team.
2. To develop the next generation sustainable aquaculture research in Europe under the framework of the Maritime Strategy Framework Directive and the Blue Growth Initiative.
3. To initiate innovative approach for aquaculture development within the Ecosystem-base approach that could improve European marine animal-food- production.
4. To develop sustainable aquaculture science and technology (S&T), uphold the S&T infrastructures, and push up the boundaries of the current research.
5. To provide training for university students and technicians and exchange the ULPGC know-how and experience inside the ERA and towards the Outermost Regions (personnel mobility, network building with ERA and OR research centres).
6. To convert the excellence in research into applications
